摘要

The objective of this work is to develop a novel manufacturing method based on filament winding technology in response to the lack of affordable automatic manufacturing methods for high performance composite impellers used in water-based vapor compression chillers. Based on a commercially available CNC machine, a complete manufacturing platform, similar to filament winding technology, has been developed to automatically weave the first composite impeller. In order to ensure that the woven impeller is able to withstand the large stresses experienced during the high speed rotation required for the specific refrigerant compression chillers, this work also characterizes the manufactured composite impeller's properties. From the recorded stress/strain response, experimental results are 15% lower than that of the micromechanical approach. It is concluded that this novel approach is able to manufacture composite impellers with required mechanical properties at an inexpensive manufacturing cost.
