A new bulk optical membrane sensor is well defined for Aluminum that is ion concentration based on a sensing colorimetric agent 1,3 diphenyltriazene by its incorporating into a plasticized poly (vinyl chloride) membrane. The optode shows a good response towards Aluminum in the concentration range 7.1 x 10(-9) to 5.0 x 10(-5) mol L-1 with a limit of detection 4.0 x 10(-9) mol L-1. The proposed optode has a somehow fast response time less than 90 Sec, and can be used at least for two months without any considerable divergence in the absorbance characteristics, at pH working range 3.0-5.3. The sensor can readily be regenerated by exposure to a mixed solution containing 1.0 x 10(-1) mol L-1 of EDTA and 1.0 x 10(-1) mol L-1 NaF. The proposed optode shows an excellent selectivity toward Aluminum ions over a variety of metal ions, vitamins, amino acids, surfactants and sugars. The optimized optode could be used successfully in determination of aluminum content in the tea Leaf, mushroom, potato and Al-Mg Syrup Samples with the satisfactory results.
