In this study, to establish a simplified fire resistance design equation of the concrete-filled square steel tube (square CFT) column under axial load, experimental, numerical, and parametric studies were carried out. Comparison between the experimental results and predictions indicates that the fire resistance calculation could predict accurately the temperatures in the column as well as its deformations and strength during the exposure to fire. The fire resistance increased more than dramatically with the column width and the sensitivity decreased fluently with the column width. Also, the fire resistance of the columns increased steeply with the larger width of the column and the sensitivity of the column width increased in accordance to the increase of applied load ratio. On the basis of numerical parametric studies, a simplified fire resistance design equation of square CFT columns is proposed. It was shown that overall, the accuracy of the proposed design equation was very good, most results being within 10% of the numerical solutions. Also, the fire resistances obtained using the suggested equation are somewhat conservative than those obtained from the existing design equations (AISC, AIJ).
