摘要

In this paper, we propose a generalised chain ratio type estimator for the finite population mean in two phase sampling using known coefficient of variation of the study variable when the population mean of the main auxiliary variable x is unknown but the population mean of an additional auxiliary variable z is known. The optimum values of the constants used in the proposed estimator have been obtained and the minimum value of the mean square error of the proposed estimator is also obtained for fixed n and n'. The conditions for the proposed estimator in a wide range of the constants used have been obtained. The proposed estimator is found to be more efficient than the relevant estimators, which is supported by the given empirical study. The efficiency of the proposed estimator is also verified in relation to other relevant estimators by a simulation study based on the empirical data.
