摘要

This work presents the adsorption potential of Mast tree seeds for the effective removal of Cd(II) ions from aqueous solution. The adsorption was maximum (97.6%) at pH 6. Maximum adsorption capacities of Cd(II) at 30, 40, and 50 degrees C were 10.56, 10.92, and 20.74 mg g(-1), respectively. The adsorption of Cd(II) was concentration dependent and adsorption capacity increased from 0.98 to 7.6 mg g(-1) with an increase in concentration from 10 to 100 mgL(-1) at 30 degrees C. Adsorption followed Langmuir, Freundlich, and Dubinin-Redushkeuich (D-R) isotherms at all the studied temperatures. The process was endothermic and spontaneous, the spontaneity of the process increased with increase in temperature. Kinetics studies showed that the pseudo-second-order model was obeyed by the system. Regeneration studies by column operation indicated a decrease in the desorption of Cd(II) from 96.7 to 74.07% in five consecutive cycles. The breakthrough and exhaustive capacities were found to be 5 and 20.9 mg g(-1), respectively.
