摘要

Partnerships have the potential to improve corporate competitiveness in the global market. Cost reduction, marketing, product diversification and development, and customer service improvement are the common drivers for entering into a partnership. Previous studies have revealed that partnership performance is influenced by a number of factors: similarity, compatibility, mutuality, joint decision-making, information sharing, risk/reward sharing, relationship-specific assets, and trust and commitment between partners. However, few empirical studies have specifically investigated the importance of these factors in partnership performance. In addition, no comprehensive study has investigated the importance of partnership drivers and the factors influencing partnership performance in the forest industry. In this study, based on a survey of forest products companies in British Columbia, Canada, we investigated 1) the types of partners, the importance of the various partnership drivers, and their correlation with company characteristics, and 2) the importance of the factors influencing partnership performance. The results showed that the type of partners and the importance of partnership drivers are correlated with the company's revenue and its position in the supply chain. The results of regression analysis indicate that the degree of joint decision-making, relationship-specific assets, and risk/reward sharing are the best predictors of partnership performance in the companies surveyed.
