Fe doped amorphous SiO2 film-containing crystal TiO2(Fe SiO2/TiO2)was facilely synthesized on carbon steel by the simple method of plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO). The composite film was prepared in Na2SiO3 electrolyte with crystal TiO2 particles suspending in the electrolyte. The microstructure and photocatalytic activities of the films were investigated. The experimental results revealed that the obtained film was composed of amorphous SiO2, crystal TiO2 and some Fe which existed in Fe2+ and Fe3+. The film showed porous and loose surface with large number of TiO2 distributing on it. The optical adsorption properties of the film were investigated by UV vis diffuse reflectance spectra which showed that the film exhibited strong adsorption both in UV and visible zones. The photocatalytic activity of the film was evaluated through the degradation of methylene blue under UV irradiation. The film exhibited desirable photocatalytic activity with stable and reusable degradation ratio of 92% of methylene blue under 4 h irradiation.
