摘要

Doping has many facets, and a particular challenge for sports drug testing laboratories are macromolecules (e.g., erythropoietin and haemoglobin-based-oxygen carriers) or modified polysaccharides (e.g., hydroxyethyl starch). Modern doping control methods enable the detection of these analytes in Urine or blood samples as long as the compounds are not destroyed by surreptitious manipulation. Techniques such as mass spectrometry, western blotting, and gel electrophoresis allow the determination of prohibited substances. but recently-described manipulative adulteration by means of proteases considerably complicates these assays. New strategies. however. enable the detection of xenobiotic proteases. the mere presence of which is considered a violation of anti-doping rules.
