摘要

Objective: To determine the perception, approach and behaviour of teachers working in different fields, in different schools located in Ankara (the capital city of Turkey).
Methodology: The questionnaires, using face-to-face interviews, were conducted with 391 teachers from February to May 2009. Data were collected through a survey questionnaire, in which a Likert type scale was used to determine the perception of organic foods. The education fields which teachers work are considered as the variables in the study (science, social sciences and vocational education) and age, number of individual in family.
Results: The results show significant differences between the personal characteristics (gender, education and marital status) of the teachers and their perception, approach and behaviour towards organic foods (p<0.001). The perception, approach and behaviour of the subgroups towards organic foods were also determined in different levels of relation (p<0.001).
Conclusions: The demand for organic foods is growing as a result of increasingly conscious consumers. Organic products are widely on the market today. Consumer demand for organic foods has been steadily rising worldwide. Organic food consumption has slightly increased in Turkey in recent years, too. Still, many Turkish consumers do not have enough knowledge about organic foods yet. Information on organic food and its importance has attracted attention; however, most Turkish individuals are not aware of the positive impacts of organic food. This study is valuable in that it explores at least some of the Turkish consumers' perception of organic foods whose consumption in the world is increasing fast.
