ANTI-FEEDING EFFECT OF DIFFERENT INSECTICIDES FOR Ctenocephalides felis felis (BOUCHE, 1835) (SIPHONAPTERA: PULICIDAE) IN DOGS

The objective of this study was to evaluate the anti-feeding effect of fipronil, the dinotefuran and d-phenothrin for Ctenocephalides felis felis in dogs. For that four dogs were used where, at day 0, the dog was treated fipronil 1, dog 2 was treated with dinotefuran, the dog was treated 3 d-phenothrin, and dog 4 was kept untreated. On day +1, each dog was sedated and submitted to the contact with 60 fleas, for 40 minutes in six replicates of ten specimens. A new exhibition has been made on +7, for the control group, d-phenothrin and dinotefuran. Then, the fleas were tested for the presence of blood in her abdomen before and after dissection. The results observed at day +1, the average number of fleas in the control group, the dissection was 8.1. With the d-phenothrin was 5.0, and the dinotefuran was 5.5, significant difference between the control and these two groups (p d" 0.05). There was no significant difference between control and fipronil, with an average of 8.8. On day +7, there was no significant difference between mean flea fed control group, which was 9.2 with d-phenothrin and dinotefuran was 7.5 for both, after the dissection. The insecticides tested, do not have anti-feeding effect against C. f felis.
