摘要

Scouring around pile foundations can decrease the vertical pile capacity and even cause the failure of superstructures. Scour effects are considered by removing the whole soil layer to the scour depth in existing provisions in Chinese standards., which will lead to a rather conservative design. This study investigates the vertical capacity of piles considering scour-hole dimensions. The vertical stress distribution of soil adjacent to scoured piles is obtained based on Boussinesq's theor,. Then, according to the stress distribution and 3 method, the ultimate shaft resistance is estimated and the effects of scour-hole dimensions on it are discussed. Among scour-hole dimensions including scour depth, width and slope angle, scour depth is found to be the main factor. An equivalent model is developed to estimate the vertical capacity of scoured piles in practice, which is validated by a 3D finite-element analysis.
