摘要

Porcine pleuropneumonia caused by Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae is a frequent and highly infectious disease generating significant economic losses related to deficiency in zootechnical profits and intensive use of antibiotics. The purpose of this review is to describe the various stages of pathogenesis: colonisation of the host respiratory tract, deterioration of respiratory clearance mechanisms, initiation and exacerbated amplification of the inflammatory reaction which plays a central role in the development of the pulmonary lesions. The clinical signs, and the macroscopic and microscopic lesions associated to the various pleuropneumonia forms are pointed out and the recent diagnostic, medical and prophylactic advances are approached.
