Aortoenteric fistula in a patient after pancreaticoduodenectomy and enteral stenting

Stenting of stenosed segments of the upper GI tract has become a valuable tool for palliation of otherwise unresectable malignant gastric outlet obstructions. Overall results are good and cost effective, given the poor prognosis and eventual comorbidities associated with the underlying malignancy. We describe the first case of an aortoenteric fistula in a patient with malignant obstruction after pancreaticoduodenectomy, related to erosion of an enteral stent deployed into the efferent jejunal loop, and we review therapy offered in this uncommon clinical presentation.
