摘要

Biogenic emissions of organic compounds (BVOC) arc of physiological, ecological, and global importance: They protect sensitive plant tissues from being damaged, serve for communication between plants and insects, and take part in numerous tropospheric chemistry processes. Doing so, they indirectly increase the amount of greenhouse gases (particularly methane) in the atmosphere. The intensity of emissions depends thus on many factors that all are assumed to change in the near future. Humans are impacting BVOC emissions and with it the environment mainly through land use change and reforestation programs and various measures for pest control. Great challenges pose integrated modeling approaches needed for projections of the impact of BVOC emissions on ecological process within ecosystems and on regional air quality.
