摘要

Compared with traditional mechanisms consisted of rigid links, a new kind of mechanism considering both the rigid and the flexible elements is proposed and defined to satisfy the demands of modern engineering in this paper. This kind of mechanism is named the generalized mechanism. The weighted topological graph and the corresponding adjacency and incidence matrices are employed to describe the structural characteristics of generalized mechanisms. By analyzing the structural characteristics, the minimal and maximal degrees of freedom are defined for generalized mechanisms, and a new method for calculating the degrees of freedom according to the information existed in the matrices is proposed. The analytical results show that the degrees of freedom of generalized mechanisms are not unique, but an interval value. The exact degrees of freedom of generalized mechanisms depend on both the members' materials and the magnitude and direction of external loads.
