摘要

Stable and robust pulses can be generated in a diode-pumped Q-switched and mode-locked (QML) c-cut Nd:GdVO4/V3+:YAG laser at 1.34 mu m by inserting an acousto-optic modulator (AOM) into the laser cavity. In this kind of dual-loss-modulation QML laser, the pulse width of the Q-switched pulse envelope has a compression of 68% and the pulse energy has an improvement of seven times compared with that in the solely passively QML laser with V3+:YAG. By considering the influence of the turnoff time and the modulation frequency of the AOM as well as the thermal lens effect, a developed rate equation model for dual-loss-modulation QML lasers is given and the numerical solutions of the rate equations are in good agreement with the experimental results.
