Antidepressant treatment in old age: what is the evidence base?
Compared to young adults, data on antidepressant treatment in older adults are sparse. Following established consensus guidelines, systematic evidence-based reviews, and recent studies, we present the evidence base for the pharmacotherapy of depression in older adults. In addition, following established treatment algorithms in younger adults, we develop a specific treatment algorithm for depression in later life. Results are being discussed.
