摘要

This paper presents a strategy for extracting customized turned features for machining applications. To make feature extraction tools appealing to the broadest spectrum of users, mechanisms need to be developed that will enable these recognition tools to be customizable to different feature sets. This paper presents a methodology for extracting turned features from axisymmetric parts. This methodology utilizes a 2-D area decomposition approach. The elements of this decomposition have properties that are used to aid in the search for common turned feature patterns. The method is extended to allow customization for different feature sets. This methodology has been developed as part of a CAPP tool for mill/turns, which are machine tools that can perform both turning and milling operations. In developing a CAPP tool for generating process plans for this domain, feature extraction tools that can handle both turned and milled features need to be integrated together.
