Allergy to buffalo milk mozzarella. Case report concerning a 16-year-old adolescent

The authors describe the case of a 16-year-old adolescent boy who presented with an anaphylactic reaction with urticaria and angioedema a few minutes after eating some buffalo milk mozzarella. The boy was known to be allergic to goat and sheep milk but not to cow milk, but he was nevertheless able to eat cow milk mozzarella. The diagnosis was confirmed by skin and labial tests with the suspected mozzarella. We offer two hypotheses to explain this history: the role of a casein common to goat, sheep and buffalo milk but not present in cow milk; a chance association in a polysensitized adolescent.
