A new Wells-Dawson polyoxometalate-based compound, H[Cu(L)(2)(P2W18O62)(0.5)]center dot similar to 3H(2)O(1) (L=N,N'-bis(3-pyridinecarboxamide)-1,6- hexane), has been hydrothermally synthesized. Compound 1 is a 2D network based on [P2W18O62](6-) polyanion and nonparallel 1D Cu(L)(2) polymer chain constructed from two types of bi-nuclear circles alternately arraying with the dihedral angle of 34.75 degrees. Compound 1 represents the first example of 2D Wells-Dawson POM-based compound constructed from the flexible bis-pyridyl-bis-amide ligand. Moreover, the electrochemical behavior, luminescent property and photocatalytic activity of 1 have been investigated.
