DILUTE ALPHA-PARTICLE CONDENSATION IN C-12 AND O-16

摘要

Alpha particle condensation is studied in C-12 and O-16 with the orthogonality condition model (OCM). The OCM equation is an approximation of the equation of motion of alpha bosons based on microscopic theories. We demonstrate that 1) the Hoyle state (the 0(2)(+) state at 7.65 MeV in C-12), located just above the 3 alpha disintegration threshold has a 3 alpha-particle condensate character, in which 3 alpha particles occupy an identical OS orbit with 70 % occupancy, forming a dilute gas-like configuration, and 2) the 0(6)(+) state at E-x = 15.1 MeV in O-16, appearing above the 4 alpha breakup threshold, is a strong candidate with dilute 4 alpha structure of the condensate-type.
