摘要

This paper presents a laboratory study on the properties of rice husk ash (RHA) cement composite mortars incorporating nano-SiO2. Different amounts of nano-SiO2 (0, 1, 3 and 5%) were incorporated into the cement composites with 20% replacement of RHA. The compressive strength, flexural behaviour, water absorption and drying shrinkage of the specimens were reported. SEM observation also conducted to evaluate the effect of nano-SiO2 on microstructure of RHA composite mortar. A significant increase in the strength of RHA composite mortars was observed by incorporating 3% nano-SiO2. The results of water absorption indicated that nano-SiO2 was more valuable in reduction of permeability than that of RHA. Drying shrinkage increased with increasing the nano-SiO2 content. SEM study showed that nano-SiO2 improved the microstructure of RHA composite cement mortars on dense and compact form by generating more homogeneous distribution of the hydrated products. The results signified the great usage possibility of nano-SiO2 in cement composites in order to improve mechanical and physical properties of the cement-based materials.
