摘要

The aim of this study was to test whether rosmarinic acid (RA) exerts antibacterial activity on pathogenic organisms of acne via its membrane-damaging effect. The MICs and the bacteriostatic effect of RA on Staphylococcus aureus, S. epidermidis and Propionibacterium acnes were measured. Meanwhile, the membrane-damaging effect was observed by determining the permeability of the cell membrane and cell wall, the release of the liposome-entrapped, and the ion leakage of S. aureus. Our data indicate that RA possessed bactericidal activity that depends mainly on its ability to induce membrane-damaging. Moreover, the bactericidal action of RA proven in this study suggests that RA may serve as a prototype for the development of anti-infective agents targeting pathogenic organisms of acne.
