Extracting inter-harmonics from power signals is a difficult problem because it is easily drowned by noise, and the amplitude is often small. A new approach was presented for inter-harmonic analysis based on the synchrosqueezing wavelet transform (SST). The method uses SST to decompose power signals into a series of intrinsic mode type functions (IMTs), and then extracts the inter-harmonics. Amplitudes and frequencies can be achieved applying the Hilbert transform (HT) to the intrinsic mode type. Because of the accurate mode separation of SST, the instantaneous frequency and amplitude of the inter-harmonic were gained precisely by HT. SST improves anti mode-mixing ability and robustness against noise compared to HHT and wavelets. The simulation and actual data test verify the validity of the proposed method, and show that it is a new effective method.
