When establishing a multi-agent system model of distributed manufacturing information system (DMIS), it is necessary to study and analyze the control requirements and the functional requirements. In this paper, the flexible coupling automaton was adopted to establish the abstract model, the computational architecture and the algorithm of each DMIS unit in the multi-agent system model. The communication among the agents was then instantiated by the interaction between the machine and the material storage, and the interface based on the two-way automaton with output was utilized during the interaction. The results indicate that the proposed Agent system can be used to analyze simultaneously the control requirements and the functional requirements of DMIS, and that it is convenient for both the analysis and the design of the system.
