摘要

Chatter vibrations in metal cutting result in poor surface finish, reduced productivity, and shortened tool life. On the external reconfigurable-integrated monitoring and diagnosis prototype system for computer numerical control (CNC), taking the typical machining processes of turning and milling as monitoring objects, the accelerometers are chosen to acquire the cutting states and the feature extraction of chatter in the time and frequency domains are analyzed, then the criterion of chatter occurring is formulated in accordance with the variance and spectrum. A comparison scheme between the monitoring data and the reference database representing the stable cutting state is considered, subsequently, the chatter monitoring module and algorithms are implemented with C# programming, where delay strategy and overlap processing enable to improve the accuracy and rapidity of the monitoring and diagnosis system. The industrial tests are conducted to verify that the diagnostic rate is up to or beyond 80%.
