A New Ursane Triterpenoid Possessing Cytotoxicity from the Fruits of Vitex trifolia var. simplicifolia

A new ursane-type triterpene, 3 beta-hydroxy-30-al-urs-12-en-28-oic acid (1), was isolated from the MeOH extract of the fruits of Vitex trifolia var. simplicifolia, along with seven known compounds: ursolic acid (2), taraxerol (3), taraxerone (4), alpha-amyrin (5), beta-amyrin (6), lupeol (7), and betulinic acid (8). Their structures were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic analysis and chemical evidence. The cytotoxicity of compounds 1-8 were evaluated in vitro against four human tumor cell lines (HL-60, SGC-7901, PANC-1, and Eca-109). Compound 1 showed significant cytotoxic activity.
