摘要

Calculation of the bandwidth available on a given channel is critical for the provision of bandwidth-constrained services in IEEE 802.11 wireless LAN environments. Although there are numerous studies on available-bandwidth estimation based on active probing packets, mathematical models, and passive measurements, accuracy is still an issue. In this paper, we propose an efficient available-bandwidth estimation scheme that considers the transmission overheads of the MAC and PRY layers. The performance of our method is evaluated using the OPNET simulator. The simulation results show that our method provides more accurate estimation results than do conventional passive-measurement-based schemes.
