摘要

This paper studied the effects of red phosphor and carbon black on flame retardance and thermal stability of the flame retardant system consisting of polypropylene (PP) and loose nanometer magnesium hydroxide. The analytical data indicate that adding red phosphor and carbon black can raise the system's vertical combustion level and thermal stability while make its heat release rate reduce from 326.9 kW/m2 to 290.0 kW/m2 and its performance index rise from 0.0240 s · m2/kW to 0.1485 s · m2/kW. The introduction of red phosphor and carbon black can effectively promote the flame retardance of the system, involving the functions of dehydration, heat absorption, char formation and heat and oxygen insulation. The enhanced flame retardance of the system evidently reflects the synergistic effect between red phosphor and carbon black.
