Application of Statistical Design of Experiments for the Optimization of Clodronate Loaded Liposomes for Oral Administration

In this paper we used the design of experiments to study the influence of various factors on the formulation of clodronate loaded liposomes. These variables were phosphatidylcholine to cholesterol ratio, the lipid component to active substance ratio and sonication time. The selected responses were drug encapsulation efficiency (DEE, %) and liposomes size (diameter). The statistical experimental design was used to investigate the influence of individual and combined effects of three factors on the responses and allowed idencation of the main formulation and the quantification of the interactions between the selected factors.
