摘要

Routine dissection of the abdomen of a 63 year old male cadaver in the Dept. of Anatomy, I. P. G. M. E. & R., Kolkata, revealed the presence of a rudimentary ectopic right kidney fused to the lower pole of the left, with multiple aberrant renal arteries arising at variable levels from the abdominal aorta. These were indicative of segmental arteries of embryonic origin supplying the fused lobulated renal mass; renal veins were also anomalous, with normal ureters. Extra renal pelvis of right ureter was due to incomplete ascent and subsequent malrotation of ureteric bud, left side being normal. Bladder, vas deferens, seminal vesicles and suprarenal glands were also normal. Right side showed empty renal fossa with an intact adrenal gland. The possible embryological causes of this anomaly have been discussed here. Even though the condition presents as a silent renal anomaly (undiagnosed throughout life and revealed only on autopsy series) the surgical implications are noteworthy, which too have been highlighted in this report.
