Natural metamict minerals as analogues of aged radioactive waste forms

摘要

Two samples of natural radioactive minerals (initial and then annealed at different temperatures) have been studied in detail: (1) completely X-ray amorphous Y-Fe-niobate with the simplified formula (Y,Fe,U,Th)(x) (Nb,Ta,Ti)(y)O-z (containing 8.0 wt% U and 1.8 wt% Th) and (2) almost completely X-ray amorphous lovchorrite with the simplified formula (Ca,Na,Ce,Th)(x)(Si,Ti,Nb)(y)(O,F)(z) (containing 1.3 wt% Th). It was observed that the annealing induces the recrystallization of both samples and the decomposition of initially homogeneous solid solutions accompanied by the formation of new U-Th-bearing phases. The results obtained are important for modeling of aging process of nuclear waste forms.
