摘要

Botulinum toxin and B. anthracis are classified by CDC and NIAD as "Category A selected agents and toxin". So far, the only used medical treatment against botulism and anthrax are antibiotics and immunotherapy. The development of effective BoNT and antrax toxin inhibitors must be based on the understanding of their action: interaction between specific receptors and toxins, protein translocation into eukaryotic cytosol, substrate binding and enzymatic specificities. This article presents data about anthrax toxin and botulinum neurotoxin structure and mechanisms of their action. Moreover recent accomplishments in antitoxin drugs design, focusing mainly on drugs inhibiting toxin binding to target cells and drugs inhibiting toxin enzymatic activities are reviewed.
