Spray characteristics of bio-diesel were investigated by using high-speed camera at an atmospheric condition in a diesel pump test-bed. The effects of pump rotation speed, orifice diameter and opening pressure of nozzle on spray structure and characteristics such as spray penetration distance, near spray angle and far spray angle were studied. The effects of fuel properties on spray characteristics were analyzed. The results showed that the general behavior in spray characteristics of bio-diesel was similar to that of diesel. However, bio-diesel gives longer spray penetration distance and half spray angle comparing with those of diesel.
