摘要

The modern theory of nucleation on charged particles, originally proposed by J.J. Thomson, is a powerful theoretical framework for explaining phenomena that combine electric and thermodynamic effects. Its predictive power is yet to be tested in a macroscopic setting. We suggest a simple and universal experiment to verify Thomson's theory. We show that for a two-phase heterogeneous liquid-vapor system contained between the plates of a capacitor, a change in voltage results in no flow of charge. If this vivid effect is not observed, it will be important to rethink the foundations of the theory.
