A New Bergenin Derivative from Ardisia maclurei

A new bergenin derivative, 4-O-p-hydroxybenzoylbergenin (1), was isolated from the whole plants of Ardisia maclurei Merr., along with three known compounds wogonin (2), wogonoside (3), and alpha-spinasterol (4). The structure of 1 was elucidated using spectroscopic methods, mainly 2D NMR techniques. Compound 1 inhibited A549 cells with an IC50 value 20 mu mol/mL.
