Preparation of mesophase from coal tar pitch

Mesophase pitch (MP) was produced by heating coal tar pitch in a microautoclave furnace at various temperatures and residence times under nitrogen atmosphere. FTIR, Polarized Light Microscopy, XRD and SENT were employed to characterize NIP, indicating that the coal tar pitch was transformed into NIP through dehydrogenative condensation reactions. The optimum yield was found at 400 degreesC and 7 h.
