摘要

In this study, the application of chitosan for the removal of Procion MX-R dye from synthetic reactive dye wastewater (SRDW) was investigated under ambient conditions. The optimum conditions for the adsorption of Procion MX-R dye onto the adsorbent was found to be: pH (4.0), adsorbent dose (1.0 g), temperature of 35 degrees C for an initial Procion MX-R dye concentration of 100 mg/L. Langmuir and Freundlich adsorption isotherm models were applied which fitted the data with R-2 value of 0.990. The adsorption of Procion MX-R on chitosan was confirmed by SEM study, as it showed the change in characterization before and after adsorption. The kinetic results showed that the rate of dye adsorption follows pseudo-second-order model for the dye concentration range studied in the present case. In addition, various thermodynamic parameters, such as standard Gibbs free energy (Delta G degrees), standard enthalpy (Delta H degrees) and standard entropy (Delta S degrees) have been calculated. It has been found that the chitosan/dye interaction was feasible, spontaneous and exothermic in nature. As a result, chitosan have been shown to be a very efficient and low-cost adsorbent, and a promising alternative for eliminating dyes from industrial wastewaters.
