摘要

Understanding matter by using high-pressure: a case study of functional perovskite-type oxides The understanding of functional ABO(3) perovskite-type oxides is a very active research area at the interface between solid state chemistry and physics. The central idea of this study is to use the external parameter high-pressure to elucidate the chemical/physical mechanisms that are at the origin of the remarkable physical properties. Our study of various perovskites with outstanding properties (relaxor ferroelectrics, multiferroics etc.) reveals that the parameter pressure is indeed a very useful tool to extract essential structural information which in turn provides a deeper understanding of the underlying mechanisms, and sometimes even allows discovering entirely new physical phenomena.
