摘要

The increasing demand of dipped natural rubber (NR) latex articles has led to a boom in the latex sector resulting in a recent emergence of latex allergies. As a new approach, we have developed a pre-vulcanization technique for NR latex based upon a UV induced pre-curing of the latex emulsion in a falling film photoreactor. The crosslinking process is accomplished via the thiol-ene reaction and is characterized by low energy consumption (pre-vulcanization at room temperature) and short vulcanization times. Surgical gloves are then produced by conventional dipping of the pre-cured NR latex. With this new technology, the manufacture of surgical gloves with excellent mechanical properties together with high ageing stability and good skin compatibility becomes feasible without using any sensitizing or noxious processing agents.
