Yb3+/Tm3+/Er3+/Ho3+-doped Na0.5Gd0.5WO4 nanocrystals have been fabricated by a facile hydrothermal method. The blue, green and orange upconversion (UC) emissions coming from Yb3+/Tm3+, Yb3+/Er3+, Yb3+/Ho3+ dopant ions are observed in this, study. Bright white luminescence upon 980 nm excitation can be produced via the UC process by tuning the dopant ions Yb3+/Tm3+/Ho3+, which consists of the blue, green and red UC emissions, and they correspond to the transitions (1)G(4) -> H-3(6) of Tm3+, F-5(4)(S-5(2)) -> (5)/(8), and F-5(5) -> (5)/(8) of Ho3+ ions, respectively. The UC mechanisms and temperature dependent UC luminescence were also discussed.
