The polybromide complex (Et4N)(3){[Bi2Br9{(Br-2)} was obtained by reaction of [BiBr6](3-), Br-2 and tetraethylammonium bromide in 2 M HBr. In its crystal structure, bioctahedral [Bi2Br9](3-) anions are connected by neutral Br-2 linkers into infinite 1D chains via terminal bromide ligands.
