摘要

Objective. - Primary objective was to estimate the prevalence of physical pain in Tourette Syndrome (GTS) a neurodevelopmental disorder involving motor and vocal tics. Secondary objectives were to characterize the pain and identify. factors associated with it. Materials and methods. - Twenty-one adults with GTS were included. Data collection was done by self-administered questionnaire combined with telephonic interview. The following variables were collected: demographic data; characteristics, severity and management of SGT; comorbidities (anxiety, depression, attention deficit disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder). The pain assessment focused on headache and pain associated with tics. Results. - Two-thirds of the subjects had headaches and 1/3 migraines. The pain was underdiagnosed and no subject had specific treatment. Patients suffering from pain tended to be younger; no association was found with comorbidities and severity of SGT. All subjects presented pain in relation with their tics (about 3.1 pains by patient): pain due to intense or repeated movement when performing tics (n = 20) or pain related to direct shock (n = 12). Severe pain due to the tics seemed to be associated with greater severity of GTS and depressive comorbidity. Finally, the existence of sensory phenomena preceding tics was described as a painful sensation in 1/3 of the subjects. Conclusion. - The high prevalence of pain in the GTS should prompt the clinician to systematically search this symptom to improve the management of this disease, in particular by combining psychotherapeutic and drug approach.
