Novel Biotemplating Synthesis of ZnWO4 Hollow Microspheres and Its Photocatalytic Degradation of Auramine O

Yeast cells were successfully used as natural bio-templates in the formation of ZnWO4 hollow microspheres. The as-obtained products were characterized by SEM, XRD, TG-DTA and FT-IR. The results showed the ZnWO4 hollow microspheres, with the diameters ranging from 2.5 mu m to 3.5 mu m, retained the morphology of yeast templates fairly well. The as-synthesized hollow spheres were constructed from ZnWO4 nano-particles of monoclinic phase. A possible formation mechanism of ZnWO4 hollow microspheres was proposed. And the photocatalytic properties of the ZnWO4 hollow microspheres were studied by the photocatalytic degradation of Auramine O in aqueous solution.
