摘要
We have prepared a polycrystalline sample of Ce5Si4 and studied the crystal structure and magnetic behavior. The tetragonal Zr5Si4-type structure [M.V. Bulanova, et al., J. Alloys Compd. 345 (2002) 110] has been confirmed by powder X-ray diffraction. The magnetization and specific heat as functions of temperature and magnetic field show clear attributes of antiferromagnetic ordering below T-N = 5.6 K. The magnetization curve at 2 K exhibits a metamagnetic transition around 0.7 T. The high-temperature susceptibility obeys the Curie-Weiss law with the effective magnetic moment per Ce close to the free Ce3+ ion value.
