摘要

The stability over time of a material is a critical issue for its application. In this study, chitosan films were prepared by casting and the influence of storage on functional properties was studied. Films were characterised by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, thermo-gravimetric analysis (TGA), and X-ray diffraction (XRD), both previous and after storage for different periods of time under specific conditions of temperature and relative humidity. Additionally, functional properties such as optical, barrier and mechanical properties were also studied. Results revealed that time progress produced significant variations in functional properties due to changes in structure related to Mail lard reaction. The rearrangement of polymer chains during storage time caused changes of flexibility, tensile strength, resistance against UV-vis light, and hydrophobic character, but it can be said that functional properties maintained good values up to 90 days of storage, providing adequate optical, barrier, and mechanical properties for these renewable and biodegradable films.
