Morpho-qualitative traits of different Indian mango cultivars in new alluvial zone of West Bengal

A comparative investigation based on young orchard of thirteen different national commercial varieties of mango was carried out in Regional Research Station of Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya under new alluvial zone of West Bengal extending for a period of three years from 2002 to 2005. Varieties were observed and evaluated pertaining to tree, leaf, inflorescence and fruit characters and physico-chemical characters of fruits and growth characters. Significant variations were observed in almost all the varieties. There existed no significant difference among means of varieties related to tree height, canopy spread, trunk girth and per cent increase in growth than the observed values of preceding years in all respects. Principal Component Analysis was used to compare the performance of these varieties (or different physico-chemical traits. Considering all the factors. Mallika was found to be the most adorable variety, released from IARI, New Delhi.
