摘要

The application of the hierarchy of risk control measures is fundamental to safety management systems but is not incorporated directly in OSHA regulations for occupational electrical safety or in NFPA 70E, Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace. The application of a hierarchy of risk controls is a methodology used in safety management to minimize or eliminate exposure to hazards and to eliminate or reduce risk of injury to as low as reasonably practicable. It is a widely accepted methodology with applications ranging from highly hazardous processes with potential for catastrophic consequences to life, property, and the environment to preventing injuries when using portable hand tools. This paper provides guidance on the practical application of the risk control measures in both the design of workplace facilities and in task planning for construction, operation, maintenance, and demolition work activities.
