摘要

This paper describes the applications of ab Al powder pad and extrusion die design with a ribbon-shaped chamber to develop a direct extrusion process of a multi-cell tube with 0.45 mm in thickness using a porthole die. In this study, the Al powder pad was used to reduce an initial forming pressure during extrusion. The ribbon-shaped chamber was also designed to induce a material welding from the middle of mandrel to the ends in order and to restrain an excessive material flow at the ends of mandrel. To determine the proper thickness of the Al powder pad, extrusion tests for the different thicknesses of the powder pad were performed. Also, the material flow of the ribbon-shaped chamber was estimated by FE simulation. Finally, the extrusion experiment of the multi-cell tube was conducted to confirm the efficiency of the powder pad and the ribbon-shaped chamber.
