摘要
A review of experimental results obtained during the first two RHIC runs is presented. The discoveries of suppression of high-p(perpendicular to) (p(perpendicular to) greater than or equal to 2 GeV/c) hadrons and the vanishing back-to-back angular correlations in central Au+Au events, both predicted by theory, suggest that high-density matter has been formed in the collisions consistent with a 'jet-quenching' scenario. However, the detailed study of particle composition, species-dependent scaling behaviour and elliptic flow patterns present a challenge to the theory. An intermediate p(perpendicular to) region, 2 less than or equal to p(perpendicular to) less than or equal to 4 GeV/c with characteristic baryon dynamics emerges from the data.
